인천 가좌동의 산업단지와 공장, 물류시설이 혼재된 도시 환경 속에 위치한 선 챔버 소사이어티는, 기존의 거대한 옹벽이 만들어내던 폐쇄적이고 단절된 거리 풍경을 새로운 풍경으로 전환하는 데서 비롯된 프로젝트다. 조경은 건축과 거리 사이의 관계를 다시 연결하고 공간의 인상을 바꾸는 장치로 계획되었다. 기존 옹벽은 구조적으로 유지하되, 단차를 활용한 식재와 테라스형 화단을 삽입해 식물이 건축과 거리 사이를 부드럽게 매개하도록 했다. 억새와 그라스류, 관목과 다간형 수목들은 단단한 콘크리트 입면 위에 시간의 흐름과 계절의 변화를 더하며, 산업적인 주변 맥락 속에서 자연의 질감이 드러나는 풍경을 만든다.

Located within the industrial landscape of Incheon’s Gajwa-dong, where factories, logistics facilities, and industrial complexes coexist, Sun Chamber Society is a project that seeks to transform the closed and fragmented streetscape once defined by a massive retaining wall into a new urban landscape. The landscape was conceived as a device to reconnect the relationship between architecture and the street, reshaping the overall impression of the space. While the existing retaining wall was structurally preserved, terraced planting beds were introduced along its varying levels, allowing vegetation to serve as a soft mediator between the building and the public realm. Ornamental grasses, shrubs, and multi-stem trees bring seasonal change and the passage of time to the rigid concrete façade. As they grow and evolve, these plantings introduce layers of texture and movement, creating a landscape where the presence of nature emerges within an otherwise industrial urban context.
