레스트앤런의 조경은 대상지에 이미 자리하고 있던 식생과 공간의 분위기를 읽어내는 것에서 시작되었다. 소철과 야자류, 자연석과 관목들이 만들어내던 기존 정원의 밀도와 층위는 공간의 중요한 바탕이 되었고, 복잡하거나 불필요한 요소들만 정리해 흐름을 자연스럽게 드러냈다. 동선은 식생 사이를 따라 천천히 이어지며, 걷는 과정 속에서 공간의 깊이가 조금씩 드러난다. 머무는 공간 역시 하나의 중심에 모이기보다 곳곳에 흩어져 배치되었다. 작은 데크와 테이블, 경계에 기대어 앉을 수 있는 요소들은 자연 가까이에 가볍게 머물 수 있는 분위기를 만든다. 기존 담장을 철거하고 새로운 경계를 계획하면서 대상지 안에 머물던 풍경은 자연스럽게 동네로 이어진다. 조경은 내부 공간을 꾸미는 역할에 머물지 않고, 주변 환경과 관계를 맺으며 거리의 분위기까지 함께 변화시킨다. 레스트앤런은 ‘휴식(Rest)’과 ‘움직임(Run)’이라는 서로 다른 감각을 하나의 흐름 안에 담아내며, 자연 속을 머물고 걸어가는 경험 자체를 공간의 중요한 장면으로 만든다.

The landscape of Rest and Run began with carefully reading the existing vegetation and spatial atmosphere already present on the site. The density and layers created by cycads, palms, natural stone, and shrubs became the foundation of the space, while unnecessary or overly complex elements were cleared away to reveal a more natural flow. Circulation gently weaves through the planting, gradually revealing the depth of the space as visitors move through it. Areas for staying and resting are scattered throughout rather than gathered around a single focal point. Small decks, tables, and edges where people can casually lean or sit create an atmosphere that encourages visitors to stay close to nature in a relaxed way. By removing the existing walls and redefining the boundary, the landscape that once remained enclosed within the site naturally extends into the neighborhood. The landscape does not simply function as an element within the property, but also shapes relationships with the surrounding environment and subtly changes the atmosphere of the street itself. Rest and Run brings together the contrasting ideas of “rest” and “movement” into a single continuous experience, making the act of staying and moving through nature a central part of the space.
