균형과 절제는 공간을 단순히 나누는 방식이 아니라, 보임과 숨김의 경계에서 삶의 태도를 드러내는 미학이다. 전면을 가리지 않고도 질서를 세우고, 절제된 선과 면으로 조화를 이루는 균형은 ‘과하지
않음’ 속에서 오히려 풍요를 만들어낸다. 이번 전시는 균형과 절제를 현대적으로 해석하여 시각적 장면으로 풀어내고자 한다. 이는 전통이 지닌 미묘한 미학을 이어오면서도 오늘의 감각에 맞는 새로운 경계와 여백을 제안하는 시도이다. 관람자는 그 속에서 숨김과 드러냄이 교차하는 긴장을 마주하며, 절제된 균형이 지닌 깊은 울림을 경험하게 된다.

Balance and Restraint are not merely ways of dividing space, but an aesthetic that reveals an attitude toward life in the boundary between what is seen and unseen. Without blocking the
view, they establish order; through restrained lines and planes, they create harmony. In “not exceeding,” abundance quietly emerges. This exhibition seeks to reinterpret balance and restraint in a contemporary language, unfolding them into visual scenes. It is an attempt to carry forward the subtle aesthetics of tradition while proposing new boundaries and margins
that resonate with today’s sensibility. Within this space, the audience encounters the tension between concealment and revelation, and experiences the profound resonance that lies in restrained equilibrium.

1〈시선이 머무는 정원, 초대〉, 초화
초화가 식재된 진입부는 시선을 자연스럽게 머물게 하며, 발걸음을 잠시 멈추게 한다. 정지된 이 순간은 공간의 시작에 균형을 부여하고, 이어지는 동선의 흐름을 차분히 열어준다.

2 〈균형과 절제의 장치, 취병〉, 철제, 대나무
취병은 보임과 숨김 사이에서 균형을 세우며 절제된 선으로 질서를 만드는 장치이다. 이번 전시는 이를 현대적으로 풀어내어 균형과 절제의 미학을 제안한다.

3 〈절제의 구조〉
주상절리는 용암이 냉각·수축하면서 형성된 돌기둥으로, 수직적 안정감과 반복적인 균형미를 보여준다. 이 지형에는 인위적인 장식이나 과장이 전혀 없으며, 자연이 만든 최소한의 선과 면만이 남아 있다. 오랜 시간의 압축과 냉각 과정을 거치며 불필요한 것은 사라지고, 꼭 필요한 형태만 남게 되었다. 이를 통해 자연의 절제가 드러나며, 단순하면서도 본질적인 조형미를 전한다.

1 An Invitation: A Garden That Holds the Gaze, Seasonal flowers
The entrance, planted with flowering perennials, naturally holds the gaze and gently pauses the step. This moment of stillness grants balance to the beginning of the space and calmly opens the flow of the path that follows.

2 Chwibyeong: A Device of Balance and Restraint, Steel, bamboo
A folding screen is a device that establishes balance between concealment and revelation, creating order through restrained lines. This exhibition reinterprets it in a contemporary language, proposing an aesthetics of balance and restraint.

3 The Structure of Restraint
Columnar joints are stone pillars formed as lava cools and contracts, revealing a vertical sense of stability and a repetitive balance. In this terrain, there is no artificial ornament or exaggeration—only the essential lines and planes shaped by nature remain. Through long processes of compression and cooling, the unnecessary has disappeared, leaving only what is essential. In this, nature’s restraint is revealed, conveying a simplicity that embodies fundamental beauty of form.
