전통적인 정원 식재는 자연을 인간의 질서 안에 배치하고 다듬으려는 태도에서 비롯되었다. 반면 오늘날의 식재 디자인은 정형화된 형식에서 벗어나, 자연이 지닌 흐름과 생태를 공간 안에 더 가깝게 담아내고자 했다. 또한 자연을 단순히 관리의 대상으로 보기보다, 함께 관계를 맺으며 지속가능한 환경을 만들어가는 방식에 대한 고민이 있었다.

Traditional garden planting originated from an attitude of arranging and refining nature within a human order. In contrast, contemporary planting design seeks to move away from rigid forms and bring the natural flow and ecology of nature more closely into space. It also reflects a growing interest in seeing nature not simply as something to manage, but as something to build relationships with while creating a more sustainable environment together.
